The Lundy Foundation, a tax exempt 501(c)(3) operating
public charity, was established in Denver, Colorado, in 1991. In
its first four years, the foundation was active in HIV/AIDS-related
issues, as an advisor to Colorado state and city agencies, and in
providing financial support to organizations addressing social ramifications
of the disease.
In 1995, foundation officials concluded from their
experience that the loosely organized community processes often
used to resolve social issues were themselves a barrier to achieving
community goals. Thus, the foundation’s board announced its
commitment to undertake research and training aimed at improving
community infrastructures for responding to urgent social needs.
The foundation now leads an international effort to develop a research
protocol for assessing the effectiveness of aid programs targeting
orphaned and vulnerable children in East Africa.
